A New Year’s Resolution Challenge: Learn an Hour of Code

Marketing Team Technology

As programming continues to bring the world closer together, virtually everything around us is impacted – healthcare, automotive, agriculture, learning, shopping, communicating, you name it. At Logic Solutions, coding and programming are our passion. We know firsthand how programming can solve a problem, bring people together, and in fact change the world.

So we were shocked to learn that less than 2.4% of college students graduate with a degree in computer science, or that 9 out of 10 schools don’t even offer computer classes. In China, every student learns computer science. In the United States, that statistic is only five percent.

Yet in 2020, it is estimated that 1.4 million jobs that involve some form of computer programming will be available. Compare that to the estimated 400,000 computer science students that will be graduating. That means that there will be one million more jobs than students by the year 2020, which equates to a $500 billion opportunity.

This year, we challenge you to expand your mind, and particularly those of the children around you, by learning and encouraging others to learn an hour of code. You don’t have to be a genius or want to be a full-time software developer, and you definitely won’t be alone. In fact, in a recent seven-day span, 20 million students in 170 countries learned an hour of code on code.com.

After going through this experience, you or your children may find a spark that was just waiting to be lit – a spark that may end up being that fire that fuels an amazing future (perhaps even one on the Logic Solutions team).
