CLIENT BACKGROUND

University of Michigan’s Office of Financial Aid provides prospective and current University of Michigan students with comprehensive information about grants, scholarships, loans, federal aid, and federal Work-Study funds.

THE PROBLEM

Because financial aid information is important for many students entering college, it is important for the Office of Financial Aid to be able to empower students with as much knowledge about their options as possible and make resources as easily available to find. Unfortunately, the Office of Financial Aid’s previous website wasn’t responsive to mobile devices, was unable to easily consolidate and manage large amounts of information, and its information for inquiring students was not as well organized as it could be.

THE SOLUTION

Logic Solutions helped the Office of Financial Aid redesign their website in WordPress, drawing inspiration from the old box/grid design to maintain a sense of familiarity, but with stronger usability to speak to different audiences and their needs. We leveraged inherent functionalities in WordPress themes to consolidate the vast quantities of financial aid information.

The change to modern design made the content-driven site more user-friendly without having to completely replace existing content. In addition, the Office of Financial Aid’s new website added a blog section with a modern categorization system with tags and images. The site is also 508/ADA compliant according to University of Michigan requirements.

Best of all, the site functions, are easy for non-technical staff members to use, whether they are updating content with new financial aid information, managing the contact form or writing blog posts. It is also much easier for students to find resources and make informed decisions about how to make the most out of their University of Michigan education.
